Elegant Idiocy

Forgotten MLB Exhibitions

Published by

I’m scrolling through TikTok this morning and I get served a video of a guy doing flips on a trampoline set up over a baseball pitcher’s mound while in a full players uniform, ball in hand.

Weird, yes. But it’s TikTok. I keep watching.

A few more flips later and he delivers a pitch to MLB all-time home run leader Barry Bonds who’s in the batter’s box.

You had my curiosity. But now you have my attention.

Best I can tell, Mr. Bonds was participating in some sort of Japanese game show and/or baseball exhibition. To his credit, he seemed to be 100% unfazed by what was happening on the bump and was 100% looking to go yard.

I wanted more.

So here are some other baseball exhibitions that you may have forgotten about.

Barry Bonds vs Japan

Barry Bonds loves hitting dingers in Japan. In 2002 he entered a home run hitting contest and showed no mercy. But he didn’t stop there, though. He then went on a game show and tried hitting bombs through smoke, off a guy using the aforementioned trampoline and a two pitchers at the same time.

Shaq vs Albert Pujols | Home Run Derby

Diesel probably will never get the credit he deserves for being an elite athlete. Right now you’re picturing ‘Tips From The Tool Shaq’ Shaq or ‘Shaq-a-Roni’ Shaq, but not that long ago he was going shot for shot with prime Albert Pujols in a home run hitting contest.

Bob Feller Plays At The Zoo

YouTube wasn’t as popular in 1936 as it is today, so we’re going to have to take a Facebook post at face value. But it appears if the Hall of Fame pitcher played a baseball game at the Cleveland Zoo. Which, in Ohio, is the superior zoo since they don’t condone the murder of sweet innocent princes like some other zoos in the state. RIP.

Dodgers Players vs Fast Pitch Softball Pitcher

Not only does Ty Sofflet manage to tear the absolute crap of Dodger Stadium’s infield, he absolutely clowns real MLB players in this clip. Diabolical for them to add in a laugh track in post production as hitters topple over.

Tom Selleck At Bat With Tigers

Mr. Baseball spent some time training with the Tigers prior to the 1991 season and during spring training, they put him in the game. About a year ago, I found a picture of Selleck, Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg and put it in a frame in my office. Took about 5 months before anyone noticed.
